Because of the Shade of My Skin

Bombarded from birth
That they have no Worth
Because of the shade of their skin
So they spend all their lives
Ashamed by those lies
Because of the shade of their skin
Now their hope is this cream
Can engender their dream
And lighten the shade
Of their skin
So the People of the Sun
Awaken now to this dun
Caused by lightening
The shade of their skin

Unfettered by the threat
Of a cancerous death
Still this lightening
The shade of their skin
Oh to see it’s what’s inside
That’s the guide to one’s pride
And not just the shade of one’s skin
What’s needed of course
Is a powerful force
To emulate, with same
Colour of skin
But the ones in the lead
Are swept away by their greed
Forgetting their colour of skin

So it’s left to a few
Bright, though unfunded
To eschew
The Glories of this colour of skin
The Rich History made askew
Brought to Light, Proven True
Great Glories by this colour of skin
This their media won’t teach
So we’ll continue to bleach
And be ashamed of this
Colour of skin
So we need an Empire
To stand up to these liars
Who would sully
The shade of this skin

From whence will this Rise
Should we look to the skies
For a Messiah for this
Shade of Skin
No! Look to the Birth
Of this place called Earth
The Genesis of this shade of skin
Yes Africa! ARISE!
Unite and get wise
Reignite the Pride of this skin
Let’s do Marcus proud
Shout ‘I’m Black and I’m proud!’
Because of the shade of my skin.
